About Me

Learning About Upkeep Requirements For Plumbing Systems Hello, my name is Lelani O’Malley. Welcome to my website about keeping your plumbing system in great shape. When I bought my first home, I was shocked to learn that it was built in the early 1900s. Another shocking discovery awaited as I learned that the plumbing system remained from its original build. Upon learning those facts, I dedicated my time to learning how to keep that system in great condition. I developed this website to bring that knowledge to you as well. I want to help all my readers maintain their existing plumbing system for years to come. Thank you for coming by.

How To Effectively Clean Your AC Filter

Cleaning your air conditioning filter is an important part of keeping your air conditioner in good condition. If you do not clean your filter, your air conditioner will not be as efficient. This can lead to higher electrical bills and will cause your air conditioner to fail sooner. Also, you will want to clean your air conditioner regularly if you are suffering from allergies.

Locating the Filter

There are some air conditioning filters that you must replace. However, the vast majority of air conditioning filters must be cleaned. If you are not sure, make sure to check the owner's manual. When it is time to perform your monthly cleaning, you will need to locate the filter and cut power to the air conditioner. Where it is located is based on the type of air conditioner you have.

Cleaning an Indoor Filter

When you own a split system, the filter is the easiest to remove. Remove the clips that hold the filter in place and simply pull it out and make sure that the vent behind it is not damaged. Some individuals simply rinse off the filter before placing it back inside the air conditioning unit. However, you may find that this doesn't clean your filter sufficiently. If this is the case, fill your kitchen sink with water and dish detergent. Then, allow the filter to soak in the dish water. Use a soft brush to scrub debris off.

Once you have cleaned the filter, you could simply allow it to air dry and then place it back inside the air conditioner. Or, you could use the hose of a vacuum cleaner to remove any dust left behind. Then, the filter will be fully clean and air can easily pass through while collecting debris.

Cleaning a Duct Filter

With a system that uses ducts, you must locate the retaining nut. This will allow you to access the filter and slide it free. Grab a hose and spray the filter to remove debris. Then, spray the filter from the opposite direction.

If you are having a difficult time removing debris from the filter, add equal parts vinegar and water to a spray bottle and spray down the filter. Allow this to sit for a few minutes and then rinse the filter off. Shake the water off and allow the filter to dry before placing it back inside. Then, you will want to reinsert the filter and replace the screw.
